Clinical utility
Evaluate anemia, leukemia, reaction to inflammation and infections, peripheral blood cellular characteristics, state of hydration and dehydration, polycythemia, hemolytic disease of the newborn and ABO incompatibilities. Determine qualitative and quantitative variations in white cell numbers and morphology, morphology of red cells, and platelet evaluation.

Notes: CPT Code: 85025 Studies performed at Specialty Laboratories have demonstrated instability of several CBC parameters with aging. For example: daily incremental increases of approximately 5% for MCV and HCT paralleled with similar declines of MCHC values were observed. It is strongly advisable that arrangements be made to have specimens delivered to Specialty Laboratories within 24 hrs post collection. If the potential exists for delay, we advise refrigeration prior to shipment, and that the specimen be shipped with a cold pack or given to our courier as a refrigerated sample. All ambient specimens received after 48 hrs will be rejected.
