Clinical utility
Mutations in genes encoding Factor V (R506Q), MTHFR (C677T and A1298C) and Prothrombin (G20210A) are detected in a higher percentage of women with severe obstetrical complications associated with abnormalities in maternal-fetal circulation. These mutations, which predispose patients to thrombosis, may be implicated in the etiology of recurrent fetal loss. Separate tests for each mutation are available: #1966 Factor V (Leiden) mutation; #5371 Factor II (Prothrombin) mutation; #4562 MTHFR C677T and A1298C mutations.
