Assay for DHEA-S is useful for investigating hirsutism and alopecia in women and in the assessment of adrenarche and delayed puberty. 17-alpha-hydroxyprogesterone measurement is of value in the diagnosis and management of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hirsutism and infertility. Common causes of increased testosterone concentrations in females include polycystic ovaries (Stein-Leventhal syndrome), ovarian tumors, adrenal tumors and adrenal hyperplasia. |
